We are a normal family as many others. A young man in its 50's, an ever younger woman in her 40's, a soon to come teen of 12 years old and a cute puppy of 18 months...
Raphaël, trot rider and break dancer (amateur), I do not really fancy school (like many others I guess...). The idea of sailing around the world for one year sounds to me an heresy at a first glance, even more when considering a... how can I say that... ''difficult family''.
But after giving the idea a second thought I get the conviction that it was feasible.
The positive points are the watching of whales, seals, turtle and many other species, as well as new places like Panama, the Caribbean islands and more important, the city of Woodwardwest where we can find the world largest skate park.
Another reason is the boat, a Dufour 500, which is just great.
"Free man, you will always cherish the sea!
The sea is your mirror; you contemplate your soul
In the infinite unrolling of its billows;
Your mind is an abyss that is no less bitter.
You like to plunge into the bosom of your image;
You embrace it with eyes and arms, and your heart
Is distracted at times from its own clamoring
By the sound of this plaint, wild and untamable (...)."
— Charles Baudelaire

Jean-Daniel, a man who can do everything (well... almost) and whose presence on board is not negotiable (unlike his authority ;-). He thought himself that after 18 years living in the Heidi land, it was almost time to go somewhere else and see if the wine was as good as here, the cheese fondue edible anywhere else and the sun shining more often.
His challenge ? To pass the skipper's license before sailing out and to make sure that food will not lack on board.
Leica, our Bouvier de l'Entelbuch, original Swiss shepard breeding from the Alps, which can't imagine living without it's herd (we in that case). The positive point is that she can't express herself, as the water is not her cup of tea and she prefer from far the local pasture. All the same she will rather go for a light mountain breeze than a tropical sunshine.
